Anti-Fur Demo in Chicago this Sunday [Mar. 2nd, 2004|09:57 am]

[mood |awake]
[music |The Story So Far by New Found Glory (idobi radio)]

In front of NEIMAN MARCUS
Sunday, March 7
NOON to 1:30 or 2-ish
737 N. Michigan
(If you need directions, this is a great site to figure out how to get
there on public transit- http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com)

I'll be supplying leaflets and posters, but feel free to get creative
and make some of your own! Oh yeah, and you can spot me a mile away- I'm
the one with the crazy red/pink hair....

A couple people mentioned they didn't have much experience protesting
and wanted to know what it will be like. Well, the answer is simple- a
protest is whatever we make it be! Its simple, really- the rough idea is
to gain visibility by lining up (without blocking sidewalks or store
entrances, of course) with posters while a few other people leaflet to
passersby. We'll be as loud as possible with some anti-fur chants. If
there's a great turn out, we might split up and leaflet other nearby fur
stores -there are lots! :(

It would also be fun to hit up the Chicago Diner afterwards and get to
know each other over some vegan treats, so bring a few bucks for food
or train fare if you're interested!

Hope to see you all there!
-Jolinda

P.S.
If you attended Dan Shannon's talk about individual activism at the
conference, you know that there's tons of fun stuff you can do on your
own. I like to stick anti-fur leaflets in the fur coats at Nordstroms and
other places that sell fur, or hand them to shoppers in the fur
section- you'd be amazed how long you can do this without getting kicked out!
If you're interested, I'll point you in the right direction after the
official demo is over.

Another P.S.
Another great list in the Chicago area to join is the Animal Defense
League's list- they send out announcements regarding events and protests
once or twice a month. Send an email to ADLChicago yahoo and tell
them ya want to join!

Also, you are all more than welcome to join the UChicago Vegan Society
list (info is here:
https://listhost.uchicago.edu/mailman/listinfo/vegansociety/ ). We have
weekly restaurant trips, some potlucks now and then and some other fun
vegan-oriented events, talks, etc. Its a medium-traffic and moderated
list, about 2 or 3 emails a week, sometimes more.

Yeah too bad Dykesville doesn't have any trees yet [so my sign pic is not accurate]. I saw on my calendar 'Ash Wednesday' and I think that's bad. I think instead of burning trees we should plant some.

As Mayor I declare February 25th Dykesville Tree Day. I thank Homo Depot for the donation of trees.. pussy willows and such.. LOL
